Some 732 new companies were incorporated in Macao for the first three months of 2008, a decrease of 8.2 percent year-on-year, according to the figures released Wednesday by Macao's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
The DSEC figures showed that while the total number was dwindling, the total registered capital surged by 117.6 percent to169 million patacas (21.13 million U.S. dollars) in the period.
Most of these new companies were operating in wholesale and retail (212), business services (147) and construction (131), accounting for 29 percent, 20.1 percent and 17.9 percent respectively of the total, with the majority of their capital came from Macao, Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland, according to DSEC.
Meanwhile, number of dissolution of companies in Macao totaled 105 during the period, and most of the dissolved companies were operating in wholesale and retail, representing 28.6 percent of the total, DSEC also said.
